Ethos & Values

What does it mean to be one of the first Muslim schools in the UK?

We strive to provide the best education in a secure Islamic environment, through the application of the Qur'an and Sunnah.

Education was not an equal space for Muslim children before. Yusuf Islam recognised this in the 80s and built a school that could provide an inclusive environment for Muslim students to excel academically. Our enduring legacy has been to pave the way where none exists. Three decades on, Islamia Girls School continues to nurture tomorrow’s British Muslim pioneers. Read Founder’s Message

Academic excellence and perfection of character

The education we provide combines the National Curriculum with a holistic learning system. We teach by cultivating spiritual, moral and social development.

Student wellbeing is paramount. Striving for this goes hand in hand with instilling purpose and responsibility. Through the Qur’an and Sunnah, we inspire mindfulness of Allah and a greater reality than the self. Through Islamic Adab, we encourage self-respect, social awareness and empathy. Our children today face many challenges. By inspiring faith and a deeper understanding of our religious traditions we:

  • equip our students with the tools to overcome social and personal challenges
  • empower them with the leadership skills to contribute to their immediate and wider community – creating positive change.
  • strengthen their sense of identity and integrity, so that they can become drivers of healing and bridge-building

Inquisitive minds, confidence and community

We strive to raise bold young ladies with leadership skills and a commitment to service. Because we believe that leadership is an Amanah grounded in service.

Through curricular and extracurricular activities, our students explore and develop their individual strengths, skills and interests. As they come into their own, they gain confidence and a strong sense of accountability.

Our students are encouraged to observe regular prayers and participate in communal worship and activities. At a time of increasing isolation and mental health issues in young people, they benefit from community and social unity, fostering a sense of connection, purpose and belonging.

The school’s ethos is central to the development of pupils’ morality and spirituality… Pupils are articulate in expressing their opinions and respect the views of others... Pupils here make a positive contribution to school life and wider society.
